Dentures come in many shapes and form They can be the simple singled tooth denture replacing the tooth knocked out at rugby or the full dentures replacing your natural teeth when all your teeth have been removed for whatever reason. Materials come in different qualities ranging from basic plastics to high impact plastics that can be hit with a hammer and not break ! As the paying patient you will be given the choice of materials which are then reflected in the price of your denture. Partial Dentures Where one or more teeth have been lost many people rely on partial denture. Many are made completely out of plastic (acrylic) .. some are given immediately after extraction as a temporary measure to allow healing …others are used for the duration. Other partial dentures can have their bases made from metal bases. CrystalClear can supply all types of dentures … keeping to what you are happy with but at the same time letting you know of newer materials on the market. We can set the new teeth in the same position or we can reposition them to give better aesthetics and some times make you look younger. Your dentist will discuss this at your appointment. Where applicable, your dentist as an alternative to your denture, may suggest Full Dentures Full dentures invariably are required where there is no choice but to remove all your remaining teeth. Although over the years we have seen a reduction in the need for full dentures, there is still a need, even if it is mostly to replace exiting dentures. Many non-denture wearers are surprised how people can wear dentures, Ideally with all dentures, you need them checked professionally regularly and more so, you need the underlying soft tissues checked regularly, every one or two years. Immediate Full Dentures Should you need your remaining teeth removed and dentures we would endeavour to fit the denture on the same day … immediate dentures. These should be considered temporary as the underlying bone and gum will change as healing takes place, making the dentures loose, unstable and uncomfortable. Normally, after 6 months to 1 year, a new set of dentures will be made where the existing dentures cannot be relined. Full Replacement Dentures Full dentures will eventually become loose, become unstable and wear with time and the underlying changes to the bony gum ridges. Ideally if you have dentures we would recommend that you have your mouth checked every year or two, where we will examine your mouth and the soft tissues and review your denture.
